One of the most common questions we hear is: “Should I do screen printing or DTF?” Both are excellent ways to customize apparel, and neither is “better” across the board — the right answer comes down to your quantity, your design, and your timeline. Here’s a plain-English guide to help you decide.
How screen printing works
Screen printing pushes ink through a stencil (a “screen”) onto your garment, one color at a time. Because there’s some setup for each color, the value gets better the more shirts you print — which makes it the go-to for larger runs of the same design.
Screen printing is best when:
- You’re ordering a larger batch of the same design
- You want the lowest per-shirt price on a bigger run
- You have a bold design with a limited number of colors
- You want a classic, durable finish that holds up wash after wash

How DTF works
Direct-to-film prints your design onto a special film, which is then heat-pressed onto the garment. It handles unlimited colors and fine detail without any per-color setup, so it shines for small orders and complex artwork.
DTF is best when:
- You need full color, photos, or multicolor logos
- You’re ordering a small quantity — even just one
- You need it fast (we can often print small orders while you wait)
- You’re printing on a mix of items — shirts, totes, hoodies, and more
